Every year, over 200,000 Americans die from adverse drug reactions and harmful side effects caused by dangerous and defective prescription medications, making drug reactions the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. Congress gave the Food & Drug Administration the power to assess the safety and effectiveness of all drugs. However, drug manufacturers have been successful in pushing for and obtaining FDA approval of many drugs without adequate clinical research and testing. In addition, many drug manufacturers are aggressively marketing drugs for specific uses not approved by the FDA and are concealing known harmful side effects from the FDA, physicians and patients. Less than 1% of all drug reactions are reported to the FDA. A goal of this web site is to make the public aware of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and of the importance of obtaining immediate medical attention in the event of the occurrence of any symptoms.
